CDA’s annual Development Weekend is scheduled for Feb 15-18. We are excited to announce that Robert McCollum (aka “Ballet Bob”) of Canada’s National Ballet School will be joining the faculty this year!
Bob trained in New York City and went on to dance professionally in both the US and Canada. Acclaimed for his expertise in teaching adults, Bob holds a Cecchetti Associate teaching qualification (with Distinction) and is a graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) Teacher Training Program. Mr. McCollum is currently the coordinator of NBS’s Adult Ballet Program and also teaches for the Professional Program at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, Teachers' Seminar at NBS, and George Brown Theatre School. In 2006, he was invited by Christopher House to teach company class for the award-winning Toronto Dance Theatre and has most recently been offered the opportunity to teach there on a regular basis.
Students attending the Development Weekend will have the opportunity to take classes in Ballet with Bob and in Modern with Darryl. They will experience Darryl's encouraging and exciting teaching style that combines artistic and scientific approaches to movement, and Bob’s unique kinaesthetic approach to Ballet. Dancers will explore areas of technical development as well as improvisation and creation techniques. In addition, dancers will be dancing to live accompaniment in Darryl’s class! Returning with Darryl is Juno-nominated percussionist Larry Graves. Larry will be playing for Darryl's classes as well as guiding students through some percussion based movement creation.
Attending workshops of this nature is incredibly beneficial to a dancer's training. Not only do the dancers get to experience a new way of looking at their technique and artistry, they will make connections with teachers and choreographers that they may have the opportunity to work with again in their lives at a post-secondary or professional level.
