Ballet & Contemporary Intensive

CDA is excited to offer a weekend intensive in Ballet and Contemporary July 28-30, 2017

For students ages 12+ that have prior experience in Ballet and/or Contemporary. Join Kealan McLaughlin (Ballet Jorgen Canada) and Marcia Dysart (Connection Dance Works Inc.) for an awesome weekend intensive! Dancers will have daily classes in Ballet technique and performance with Kealan, and Horton technique and performance with Marcia. The weekend will conclude with a demonstration for family and friends.

Kealan McLaughlin - CBJ Company Member [2011 -]

Kealan’s repertoire with CBJ includes Florimund in Sleeping Beauty, Prince and Suitor in Cinderella, Tybolt in Romeo & Juliet, Von Rothbart in Swan Lake. Lord Birch in The Nutcracker a Canadian Tradition.Kealan began dancing ballet at the age of 6. Kealan studied at Canada’s National Ballet School, Pacific Dance Centre and Banff Centre for the Arts and then returned to NBS and graduated in 2007. After two years of post-secondary training and guesting across Canada, he began his professional career with Alberta Ballet.

Marcia Dysart - studied contemporary dance at McMaster University’s Centre for Dance Performance in Hamilton, ON from 1998-2001 and more recently at Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in NYC.

Marcia danced with the Hamilton Dance Company and Parahumans from 1999-2001. In 2010 Marcia co-founded Connection Dance Works Inc. and continues to perform with the company. Recently, she has danced in works by: Darryl Tracy, Vanessa Goodman, Meagan O’Shea, Sarah Johnson Power, and Stefanie Mayhew. Marcia's most recent choreographic projects include:Petticoat Captain, in collaboration with videographer John Marshall, supported by artsnb; Under Sail, supported by the Saint John Community Arts Funding Program, performed at the NBMuseum, Contact East, and IMPACTfest (Atlantic Ballet Theatre); Hot Thoughts Disrupted, aduet that debuted at PERSPECTIVE in 2011; Spill Herself Away, a collaboration that began at PERSPECTIVE’s 2015 lab intensive with musician Joel Leblanc and continued to be developedwith support from artsnb in 2016. Marcia is collaborating with cellist Katie Bestvater andviolinist Nienke Izurieta to complete Spill Herself Away, making it a full-length work. The projectis supported by artsnb and will debut at the 2017 Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival.
